The 70+ Characters, Tribes, and Legends of Arthdal Chronicles

Get to know the characters, tribes, and legendary heroes of tvN’s Arthdal Chronicles (2019-2023):


A group of people from the East that consists of 30 clans who worship the grand waterfall where their legendary hero Inaishingi jumped from. However, all 30 clans fight each other and even sell people from other clans for slavery in Arthdal. They also used to be part of the Arthdal Union and were perceived to be suspicious or in an act of rebellion.


A leader of Arthdal Union 80 years ago who called himself Aramun Haesulla but did crazy things.


A deity of the White Mountain Tribe that is regarded as the beginning and end of this world.


A group of people from Iark who are known for boars and good neighbors with the Wahan Tribe. They were first attacked by the Daekan Forces upon entry into Iark.


A legendary hero from the ancient times and founder of the Arthdal Union. He is also known as the God of Harmony and Unification who brings Arthdal together, the lonicera flower, the Hammer of Wind, and Kanmoreu, as well as the envoy of Asa Sin. He is rumored and believed by others to be an Igutu.


The mother and greatest elder of the White Peak Mountain Tribe who protects the sacred caves and has the power to influence the decisions of the Great Shrine. She also knows about the prophesy of the sword, bell, and mirror that will altogether end the world.


The Great White Wolf who eloped with Risan and disappeared with the totem that has been passed down to Asa Clan’s direct-line descendants. She was suspected to have went to Iark, disconnecting her bloodline with the Asa Clan in Arthdal, leaving them as indirect descendants and carrying on her bloodline to the Wahan Tribe.


The first tribe to arrive on Arth who cannot be defeated with weapons, riches, or inventions. The present Asa Clan became the indirect descendant of Asa Sin when she disappeared and severed her bloodline with them. They are also perceived by others as a disgrace to Isodunyong.


Choo Ja-hyun as Asa Hon ๐Ÿ“ท tvN

A Saram from the Asa clan and the mother of twin brothers Eunseom and Saya. She becomes the sacrificial victim by bringing Sanung’s gift of fabrics wrapped around diseased animals to the Neanthals, causing sudden outbreak of infections. She was given the convoluted title, Georukeumihon, to honor her. She refused to leave Atturad when it was set on fire by Arthdal to protect her babies with Ragaz, a Neanthal. She believes that Aramun Haesulla cursed her for not giving up her twin sons who were prophesied to bring disaster upon the world. With baby Eunseom, she travels to lark, a faraway land from Arthdal to escape from the curse.


A descendant of the White Mountain Tribe and a chief priestess who directly reports suspicious moves around Arthdal to Asa Ron Niruha, the head priest. She was also wedded to Tagon in order to make him the new leader of Arthdal.


Lee Do-Kyung as Asa Ron ๐Ÿ“ท tvN

The sly and conniving Head Priest of Arthdal and leader of the White Mountain Tribe. He is an indirect descendant of Asa Sin who uses violence to anyone he perceives as a threat to his name and tribe. He is perceived to be fabricating interpretations of oracles spoken by gods. He even announced Tagon to have the special gift of psychic abilities of the gods during the sacred trial to prevent being hated by the Arthdal people and losing his authority. He led a coup or revolt against Tagon, Tanya, and Tae Alha but failed to succeed. In the end, he was killed by Tagon.

A man of the Kaeran Tribe who became a slave in Doldambul, digging for jewels in the underground mine.


A group of people headed by Kungtung, who was given the position of the minister of the bang of trade in Arthdal.


A lethal person of the Shahati who stabbed Tagon with a poison, as ordered by Asa Ron. He was killed on the spot by Tagon.


A group of people from the Ago Tribe who wants to bring back the glory of Inaishingi, a legendary tribal hero.


A descendant of the Mulgil Tribe who became a slave in Doldambul, digging for jewels in the underground mine.


A group of people with lethal skills who were ordered by Asa Ron to kill Tagon, Tae Alha, and Tanya before the Gohamsani.


The mother of the Wahan Tribe in lark who trains Tanya to be the next Great Mother. She sees Eunseom a threat to their community and wants him to leave Iark. She died during captivity.


The scribe of Union Palace in Arthdal who records the events and happenings in Arthdal and reports them to the Union Leader.


A group of warriors from Arthdal led by Tagon who succeeded in conquering Atturad and The Plains of the Moon, wiping out Neanthals in a span of ten years during The Great Hunt.


A Wahan who always accuses Eunseom as a liar and thief in Iark but becomes his loyal friend during slavery in Doldambul.


Park Byung-hun as Danbyeok ๐Ÿ“ท tvN

The brother of Tagon and commander-in-chief of the army in Arthdal. He always trusted and sided with Tagon but begins to doubt him after their father’s death. He died from poisoning but believed by people to be cursed after imprisoning the head priest.


The goddess of the Saenyeok Tribe who prophesied that Tagon will kill his father.


A Wahan girl who survived the attack of Daekan Forces in lark and found alone by Eunseom. Lady Chaeeun and her family took care of her in Arthdal.


An igutu who was born to a Saram (human) mother and a blue-eyed Neanthal father. His birth was prophesied to be the “sword” who will bring disaster to the world. After living for 10 years in the Great Black Cliff with his mother, they arrived at lark and met the Wahan tribe who adopted and raised him like their own after his motherโ€™s demise. Although not blood-related, he has a big heart for the Wahans and Tanya, his childhood bestfriend. He has purple lips, purple blood, and back scabs. He possesses superhuman strength, shows great hunting skills, unique speed, and is the only one who can ride the legendary horse Kanmoreu. In his quest to free Wahans from slavery in Arthdal, he meets and wins the hearts of multiple tribes with his extraordinary abilities who now considers him the awaited second coming of Inaishingi, the legendary god of the Ago Tribe, becoming the revered tribal hero. Eight years later, he unifies and leads 30 clans of the Ago Tribe to march towards Arthdal.


A captain guard of the Union Palace in Arthdal that was given authority to lead the palace guards when Danbyeok died.


The god that leads the growing spread of rumors across Arthdal Union, and who never sleeps but travels through countless mouths and ears.


A shaman of the Bato Tribe who cursed Tagon in public for killing their tribal head and stabbed herself on the spot.


The first great mother and progenitor of the Wahan Tribe, whose true origin is Asa Clan.


A group of people who are gifted with science and technology who settled down in Arthdal after they failed to succeed in Remus. Their ability to farm and handle bronze was a threat to Arthdal. It was even their engineers who found a way to climb down and up the Great Black Cliff through a giant ladder that was built for a decade. They also enabled water to flow in the arid land. However, they keep and do not share their techniques and science skills with other tribes, not even with the leaders of Arthdal Union. This tribe is headed by Hae Mihol and his daughter, Tae Alha.


Jo Sung-ha as Hae Mihol ๐Ÿ“ท tvN

The father of Tae Alha and head of the Hae Tribe. He is the only person with the bronze-working knowledge in the entire Arthdal. However, he was tortured by Saya to reveal the secret of the bronze and killed by Tae Alha using bichiwisan.


Yoon Sabong as Hae Tuak ๐Ÿ“ท tvN

A descendant of the Hae Tribe and the trusted maid of Tae Alha who helped her raise Saya, the adopted son of Tagon, in secret. She is good at martial arts.


A trusted doctor in Arthdal who was used by Sanung Niruha to create a disease outbreak among Neanthals. He also attended to Sanung Niruha’s dead body and discovered about the single slit wound with a depth of five chi from a bronze sword. He treated Eunseom from body wounds after jumping off a cliff. He and his family were ordered by Tae Alha to be killed by Daekan Forces after discovering Tagon’s purple blood during his treatment. However, his two daughters Chaeeun and Nunbyeol survived.


A group of people headed by Chobal who are known to have invaded the storage at the temple but were defended by the people of Arthdal.


The legendary hero who survived the drop at the great waterfall and unified all 30 clans of Ago Tribe 200 years ago. He was also the only one strong enough to fight against Aramun Haesulla.


Kim Sung-cheol as Ipsaeng ๐Ÿ“ท tvN

A descendant of the Ago Tribe who became a slave in Doldambul, digging for jewels in the underground mine. He is talkative, makes up stories, betrays people, doesn’t trust anyone, and longs to escape the mine with the gems he collected underground. He has betrayed Eunseom several times.


The leading goddess of the Heaven Lake and White Peak Mountain that never sleeps. It is often summoned by Asa Ron, the head priest of Arthdal, for spiritual matters like oracles and rituals.


A priest who once served as a Union Leader in Arthdal.


Erika Karata as Xabara ๐Ÿ“ท tvN

Also known as Xabara, the head of the Momo Tribe who feels greatly indebted to Eunseom for saving her and the great family line of their tribe. To repay his kindness, she ordered her water warriors to search for Eunseom and save him from the great waterfall.


A daughter of Harim who helped Eunseom and Doti in Arthdal, and the only family member alive with her adopted sister Nunbyeol after they were attacked by the Daekan Forces.


The great hunting god of the Bato Tribe whose sculpture was destroyed by Tagon in front of people.


A lady warrior of the Myo Clan from the Ago Tribe who saved her people along with Eunseom and Ipsaeng from the Tae Clan who captured them for slavery.


A group of people who are known for hunting while walking in water, taking revenge against their enemies, and repaying kindness to those who help them. They saved Eunseom from the great waterfall.


The female elder of White Peak Mountain’s Hearts who assists Tanya in the Great Shrine.


Park Hae-joon as Mubaek ๐Ÿ“ท tvN

A descendant of Mulgil Tribe and is the best and fiercest warrior of Daekan Forces in Arthdal. He was the first one to discover Kanmoreu the legendary horse while chasing after Eunseom, the three heavenly things (sword, bell, mirror), and found the byeoldaya of the great mother Asa Sin. He secretly brought the wounded Eunseom to Harim, a doctor, for treatment and secretly told Saya about his twin brother. He was offered the head position of military office by Tagon who considers him the most loyal and honest warrior. Meanwhile, he wishes to right the wrongs in the world, and punish Tagon for killing Sanung.


A nasty warrior of Daekan Forces in Arthdal and younger brother of Mubaek who was cursed by Tanya. Under the crescent moon, Nunbyeol a Neanthal ripped out his heart, as prophesied by Tanya.


Park Jin as Mungtae ๐Ÿ“ท tvN

A Wahan who betrayed his friends Eunseom and Dalsae during captivity to Doldambul. He became a guard of the Union Palace.


A group of people from the Ago Tribe who discovered the second coming of Inaishingi through Eunseom who dreams, knows the waterfall dance, and survived the great waterfall drop.


The daughter of Danbyeok, niece of Tagon, and the next head of Saenyeok Tribe after the death of her grandfather Sanung Niruha and her father.


The blue-blooded tribes who are known as the strongest species, more dangerous than tigers, and called “monsters” or “beasts” by the Asa Clan. They are good-looking people, have blue lips, supernatural speed, formidable power, and eyes that enable them to see even on moonless nights. Although they do not believe in gods, they have the spiritual power to dream. Their fertile land is called the Plains of the Moon and they do not eat mugwort and garlic and refuses to join hands with Sarams. Once a year, they gather to celebrate the crescent moon and the festival goes on for seven days. They were attacked by a disease and a massive fire caused by the Daekan Forces. The entire tribe was wiped out in a span of 10 years during the Great Hunt led by Tagon. Unbeknownst to Arthdal, five Neanthals were able to survive.


Ahn Hye-won as younger Nunbyeol ๐Ÿ“ท tvN

The only female Neanthal that survived The Great Hunt. She was found as a little girl in the woods by Harim during the Manteiv war, adopted and raised by the doctor and his wife and daughter, Lady Chaeeun. She was trained with swordsmanship growing up, making her more unbeatable. She resolved to take revenge against Tagon and Tae Alha for killing her family.

Teo Yoo as Ragaz ๐Ÿ“ท tvN

A Neanthal who was in a relationship and have twin babies with Asa Hon, a Saram. He was killed by Daekan Forces during the Great Hunt.


The head of the Tigers of the Neanthal tribes who refuses to join hands with Sarams (humans).


A spy that Tagon planted among the Ago Tribe.


A code name given by Tae Al-ha that refers to Asa Ron Niruha, the Head Priest of Arthdal.


Saya’s maid turned love interest who was ordered to be killed by Tae Alha.


The biggest group of tribe that is led by Sanung Niruha, the head of Arthdal Union. When he died, the Tribe’s leadership was taken over by a young lady named Narin, becoming the youngest head among all leaders of tribes.


Kim Eui-sung as Sanung ๐Ÿ“ท tvN

The head of the Arthdal Union, Saenyeok Tribe, and father of Tagon. He spoke to the head of Neanthals to join hands with them, the Sarams (humans). Rejected, he ordered to annihilate Neanthals by a contagious disease. He also initiated and ordered his people to find a way down the Great Black Cliff and conquer lark. He’s a formidable opponent of Asa Ron Niruha, the head priest of Arthdal. He was taken captive by Eunseom in exchange for the release of Wahans and was killed by his own son Tagon.


The human inhabitants of Arth who are known to be skilled at martial arts, starting a fire, blades, and providing cultivation and agriculture such as beans, barley, sorghum, mugwort, and garlic. Intellectually, they can scheme, conspire, and have the will to satiate their greed.


Jo Byeong-kyu as Sateunik ๐Ÿ“ท tvN

A descendant of the Momo Tribe who became a slave in Doldambul, digging for jewels in the underground mine. He got sick with a blood disease and died before their plan of escape. It was him who strengthened Eunseom with words of hope.


The twin brother of Eunseom who was left alone as a baby in the middle of the woods, found and secretly brought to Arthdal by Tagon to become his adopted son. Born with an Igutu blood, he was confined in the Fortress of Fire for twenty years and has read all the books in Pilgyeonggwan several times. He lurks around mysteriously and acts in unpredictable ways. He is an intelligent strategist and can be sly. He shows no mercy and feels no remorse when killing someone. While Tagon seeks to be adored by people in Arthdal, Saya seeks to be feared. While Tagon hates to reveal his Igutu blood, Saya is proud to have a purple blood and longs to be known as an Igutu who conquers the world. While he symbolizes the โ€œmirrorโ€ who is prophesied to go up against Tagon, he plots a strategy for his father to become the first King of Arthdal. From the position who runs the bang in the Royal Administration, Saya becomes the army commander and powerful heir to the throne, eight years later.


The trusted servant of Lady Chaeeun and her family. He was sent to Doldambul to search for Eunseom.

The power-hungry daughter of Hae Mihol and long-time lover of Tagon who raised his adopted son, Saya. Next to her father, she becomes the only person who knows the secret of the bronze in the entire Arthdal. Ultimately, she desires to take over the kingdom of Arthdal and continue the mission of her father. She killed her own father by poisoning and told Tagon that she is pregnant with his baby.


The head of the Tae Clan who is known to be the most uncooperative leader of the Ago Tribe. He was killed by his own people for doubting the second coming of Inaishingi.


A group of people of the Ago Tribe who capture people from other clans to be sold for slavery in Arthdal.


A descendant of the Ago Tribe from Tae Clan who captured Eunseom and Ipsaeng at the Agoha Forest.


Jang Dong-gun as Tagon ๐Ÿ“ท tvN

A descendant of Saenyeok Tribe and a beogeumbari (illegitimate child), son of Sanung Niruha. He led the Blood of Atturad, the decade-long Great Hunt of Neanthals, the suppression of the Ago Tribe, the ladder building by the Great Black Cliff, and bringing slaves from Iark, showing great leadership and skills as a warrior, thus earning the title “The Hero of Arthdal”. He was prophesied by Daraburu, a deity of Saenyeok Tribe, that he will kill his father, Sanong Niruha, destroy the lives of many others, dismantle the Arthdal Union, and forever be a hindrance. His greatest weakness is the revelation of his Igutu origin, a purple-blooded tribe that is known to bring a bad luck or disaster. So, he kills anyone who discovers his Igutu blood. He was crowned the first King of Arthdal and is on fire to conquer the land and people of the Ago Tribe.


A shaman of the Wahan Tribe who was born on the day of the Azure Comet, prophesied as the destiny of the bell, and the next great mother of her people. During captivity in Arthdal, she became a maid of Saya and transformed into the new High Priestess of Arthdal after finding the star bell of Asa Sin in the Great Shrine.


A Wahan who tried to kill Eunseom during captivity to Doldambul but took his own life instead.


A group of people who are known to be in conflict with Wahan and Anja Tribes.


The group of people from lark who are the true descendants of Asa Sin. They are skilled at hunting using arrows and sling stones, led by Yeoksun, the father of Tanya the next Great Mother. They are considered dujeumsaengs or lowly people by Arthdal and were attacked by the Daekan Forces during the Spirit of Flowers Ceremony, killing many of their people and making others as slaves. They were set free from slavery when Tanya became the High Priestess of Arthdal.


The second biggest group of tribe that consists of 17 clans and is known for spiritual matters such as deities and rituals led by Asa Ron Niruha.


An organization that honors Asa Sin and secretly gathers at Ggachi Cave, including Saya. They were sent to assist Tanya in the Great Shrine when she became the High Priestess.


A young warrior of Daekan Forces who was punished by wearing a mask and not allowing to speak. He becomes the personal guard of Tanya.


A descendant of the Hae Tribe and the trusted assistant of Hae Mihol who is good at martial arts.


The leader of the Wahan Tribe in lark and father of Tanya. He finds Eunseom amusing for his extraordinary skills and capabilities. He enjoys learning new things at Hae Tribe’s Fortress of Fire.


A warrior of the Daekan Forces who went to Doldambul to search for Olmanadae, the elder of the White Peak Mountain’s Hearts as ordered by Tagon. He and his men got involved in a riot instigated by Eunseom, failing to take Olmanadae. Upon his return to Arthdal, he was shocked to see Saya who resembles Eunseom.


The daughter of the chief of the Myo Clan from the Ago Tribe who was captured by Tae Clan for slavery.
