TVN Korea’s “Vincenzo” And “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” Are The Top Drama Series Of 2021

TVN is a pay cable channel in South Korea. Although it has a smaller audience compared to commercial free-to-air television such as the KBS, SBS, and others, it has produced several of the most popular Korean series and well-received hallyu content.

But among the good list of TVN’s drama projects this year, “Vincenzo” and “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” are the most popular—dominating the weekly rankings of the most buzzworthy drama and actors, attaining the highest nationwide viewership ratings, topping the Netflix’s Top 10 global ranking and charts, as well as leading the various polls, surveys, and review ratings.

According to Korea’s Break News report on December 13th, “Vincenzo” recorded the highest rating of 18.4% in the first half of the year while “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” attained the highest rating of 14.5% in the second half of the year. The data was based on a paid platform that integrates cable, IPTV, and satellite, provided by Nielsen Korea.

As the two dramas were also released simultaneously on Netflix, both successfully achieved the top rankings worldwide among the Korean and non-English content.

Interestingly, “Vincenzo” with 20,170 points and “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” with 14,288 points are the only non-Netflix Original projects among the Top 5 list which includes “Squid Game” with 53,911 points, “Hellbound” with 9,752 points, and “My Name” with 9,706 points.

It is also reported that producers overseas are asking for rights to remake the two dramas and discussion is in process.

Although “Vincenzo” and “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” are two distinct genres, the local high ratings as well as the international popularity show that viewers are drawn to high quality content, excellent screenplay, iconic fictional characters, as well as outstanding performances.
