One Ordinary Day: Here Are 3 Things To Expect From Kim Soo-hyun’s Newest Drama

“I ran away because I was scared. I didn’t do that.”

“One Ordinary Day” (2021) is an upcoming Korean drama starring Kim Soo-hyun and Cha Seung-won. It is an eight-part series that explores the society’s twisted system and injustice based on the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) television show, “Criminal Justice” written by Peter Moffat.

Here are three things to expect from the crime-thriller series:

1. Theme, Synopsis, and Plot

A Korean remake series, “One Ordinary Day” revolves around two men whose lives intertwine following a homicide case.

The trailer reveals a terrified college student who is embroiled in the murder of a woman he spent the night with, making him a prime suspect. He was sent to the station for questioning and put behind bars. “I didn’t do that,” he screams in distress.

A third-rate lawyer who finds him innocent comes to the rescue to lead the investigation. “Is it really tough for you? Sign here. Starting now, I’m your lawyer,” he tells the student.

In the process, they will face a number of trials—all circumstantial evidence at the crime scene point to the key suspect, the netizens increasing rage, and media’s scrutiny.

Despite the odds, they will embark on a difficult search for truth and fight for justice, exposing the twisted system of the country.

Will the truth prevail? Will they win and achieve justice?

2. Main Cast and Characters

The young multi-awarded, top hallyu star, and one of the highest-paid actors in the Korean entertainment industry, Kim Soo-hyun, will characterize the college student who is accused of murder. It was reported by media outlets early this year that he will earn 500 million won per episode in this project.

The quality of his acting skills and experience is truly worth the prize. The show’s producers remark, “During the brief moment when Kim Soo-hyun waits at the police station, his passionate acting through his facial expression and eyes allows you to feel the character’s anxiety, danger, tension, and outburst of emotions.”

His successful drama in 2020, “It’s Okay To Not Be Okay”, has the most number of nominations at the 2021 Baeksang Arts Awards. The show is also currently nominated for the Best Television Series in the 2021 International Emmy Awards.

He also won the Grand Prize (Daesang) at the 2020 Asia Artist Awards for his role as “Gang-tae” in the said drama.

Cha Seung-won is a veteran actor who has appeared in numerous television series, variety shows, and film projects, including the latest “Night in Paradise” (2021). He will play the role of a third-rate lawyer who will do his best to fight and reveal the student’s innocence.

“The passionate performances of Korea’s top actors Kim Soo-hyun and Cha Seung-won will leave a deep impression in the hearts of viewers,” state the producers.

3. About the Creators

“One Ordinary Day” is directed by Lee Myung-woo whose filmography “Punch” (2015) and “The Fiery Priest” (2019) achieved top awards such as the “Hallyu Drama Top Excellence Award” (The Fiery Priest) at the 14th Seoul International Drama Awards, and “Special Award for Foreign Drama” (The Fiery Priest) at the 2019 International Drama Festival in Tokyo.

On the other hand, Kwon Soon-gyu is the writer of the show who wrote the “Warrior Baek Dong Soo” (2011), “Goddess of Fire” (2013), and “The Royal Gambler” (2016).

The producers shared that “One Ordinary Day” is a heavy masterpiece that portrays the criminal justice system, conveying a social message, “It is not merely a straightforward crime drama, but instead a drama that showcases in detail the psychology of the various characters entangled in the crime. Please give it lots of interest.”

“One Ordinary Day” is scheduled to air on November 27, 2021 through Coupang Play and Viu.
