On December 21st, the Variety’s team of global correspondents has selected this year’s crop of best international TV shows. Among the list of content is South Korea’s “Squid Game” on 1st place and “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” on 6th place.
Variety describes “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” as one of the feel-good K-dramas of 2021 stating, “The story’s simplicity and lightheartedness has a refreshing vibe amid the doom and gloom of the pandemic.“
“Squid Game” which is Variety’s the best among the best is described as “super visual and totally uncompromising in its vision”.
Both “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” and “Squid Game” are also on the top list of most popular hallyu content and longest watched Korean shows on Netflix this year, leading the global rankings and charts.
On the week of December 13-19, both shows strongly remain on the Top 10 Most Watched on Netflix worldwide. “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” on its 16th week has been watched for more than 300 million hours since its release while “Squid Game” on its 14th week leads the hallyu content on Netflix with a whopping 2.2 billion viewing hours.
