The screenplay of The King’s Affection (2021), starring Park Eun-bin and Rowoon, has entered the final list of international candidates in a tough competition with other selected drama writers from overseas in the International Competition section of Seoul International Drama Awards (SDA).
On August 3rd, SDA revealed 24 dramas and 30 individual candidates from 11 countries/regions to compete in the International Competition section that consists of two categories, Program and Individual. The Program category includes the Best TV Movie, Best Mini Series, Best Serial Drama, and Grand Prize Award. Meanwhile, the Individual category includes the Best Director, Best Screenwriter, Best Actor, and Best Actress.
Korean screenwriter Han Hee-jung made it to the final list of nominees for Best Screenplay. She wrote the historical romantic series, The King’s Affection (2021), which is based on “Yeonmo”, a manhwa or comic by Lee So-young. The story tells a young woman who becomes the King of Joseon, played by Park Eun-bin.
The selected Korean writer will compete with Agnes Pluch from Germany (Breaking Point), Ugras Gunes from Turkey (Hidden Truth), Eda Tezcan from Turkey (Aziz), Natalie Carter and Eve De Castro from France (Emma Bovary), Dominique Garnier and Zoé Galeron from France (Nobody’s Child).
Korean directors Choi Sangyeol of My Daughter (2021), Kang Sol and Park Daehee of Show Window: The Queen’s House (2021) were also selected to compete in the final round for Best Director. They will compete with Akim Isker from France (Nobody’s Child), Sven Bohse from Germany (Sisi), Nadim Güç from Turkey (Chrysalis S2), Ben Fong from Hongkong (Kids’ Lives Matter), Hiro Murai and Jeremy Podeswa from U.S.A. (Station Eleven).
The final winners will be officially announced during the awarding ceremony of Seoul International Drama Awards on September 22nd. The event will be broadcast live simultaneously on KBS2 TV and SDA’s official Youtube channel from 17:00 to 19:00 KST.
