Kim Seonho, 김선호, is a rising global actor from South Korea. He remarkably rose to fame with his secondary role, “Han Jipyeong”, through the drama, “Start-Up” (2020). Since then, he has received numerous commercial and project offers while his Instagram followers exceptionally increased from hundreds to millions in just a few weeks in 2020.

Currently, he has 7.9 million strong Instagram followers and the numbers keep increasing. Here are some things you need to know about his acting career, awards, movie debut, and script reading schedule:

1. His acting career

Kim Seonho’s career started as a stage play actor in 2009 and he has been actively performing for theater projects for more than ten years now.

He made his television debut in 2017 through the drama, Good Manager, followed by Strongest Deliveryman (2017), Two Cops (2017), You Drive Me Crazy (2018), 100 Days My Prince (2018), Welcome To Waikiki 2 (2019), Catch The Ghost (2019), and Start-up (2020).

The popular and successful series, “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” (2021), was his first hit main role project as an actor. It consistently took the highest nationwide viewership ratings in its time slot across all channels, from the premiere in August to the finale episode in October, attaining the highest record of 12.7%, according to Nielsen Korea.

After a month, it strongly remains on the Top 10 TV shows on Netflix in several countries with a successful rewatch campaign organized by fans worldwide.

On November 1st, it was confirmed through Naver and Soompi that Kim Seonho will appear for the first time on the big screen in 2022.

2. His movie debut in 2022, “Sad Tropics”

“Sad Tropics” revolves around an aspiring Korean-Filipino boxer who comes to Korea to find his estranged father. Throughout the quest, he stumbles upon a villainous group of boys and encounters misadventures where his life will reverse.

According to reports, there are two main leads in this film, the boxer and the nobleman. Early in September, Kim Seonho was positively reviewing the casting offer, as confirmed by his agency, although his role was not specified yet. However, in the September and recent Naver articles, it is said that Kim Seonho will take the role of a nobleman, a very complicated and mysterious character who encounters the boy boxer-dreamer.

In October, actress Go Ara has reportedly received the offer to star in this movie. After reviewing the project, her appearance as the female lead has been confirmed.

Interestingly, it was rumored that Marian Rivera, a famous actress from the Philippines, was selected to be the Filipina mother, while Yoon Junghoon will portray the boxer’s Korean father. Both Junghoon and Seonho are cast members of the reality-variety show, “2 Days and 1 Night” Season 4. As of writing, these news are not yet verified.

One thing is for sure: Kim Seonho will proceed with the movie as planned and start filming in December. “After much consideration and long discussion, the team has decided to start filming with Kim Seonho within this year,” states the film official.

His appearance was also confirmed by SALT Entertainment through Sports Trend and that this given opportunity will be repaid through the actor’s hardwork, diligence, and commitment.

On November 18th, it is reported that “Sad Tropics” will hold its script reading on December 3rd. The film officials confirmed the complete attendance of the entire cast, including Kim Seonho.

And the hype begins as the official complete list of main cast and top characters were revealed on November 19th.

Park Hoon Jung, the director of this movie, is known for his hit films, “New World” (2013), “V.I.P” (2017), “The Witch: Part 1 The Subversion” (2018), and “Night In Paradise” (2021).

3. His acting awards

Kim Seonho’s fame as an A-list actor continues to soar globally. He has been receiving numerous projects and offers since his phenomenal secondary role in the drama, “Start-Up” (2020), where he was also nominated for the Best Supporting Actor at the 2021 Baeksang Arts Awards.

In September, he took first place in the Brand Reputation Ranking index in the list of drama actors according to Korean Business Research Institute.

In October, his famous role and exceptional performance for “Han Jipyeong” in the drama “Start-Up” (2020), won the “Character of the Year” at the 2021 Seoul International Awards.

In November, he attained two popularity awards at the 2021 Asian Artist Awards (AAA). His impact as a skilled actor continues to shine and be recognized worldwide.

He also ranked 31st in the list of Forbes Korea Power Celebrities of 2021 and 10th among the Korean actors.
